These tools help to identify and eliminate malware from a PC and can also block malicious websites that may attempt to take over or corrupt the user’s data. However, these tools can significantly slow down a computer’s speed as well as performance when running scans or updating their database of infected files. This article examines the performance of various antivirus software by testing the extent to which they can slow down a computer.
The independent AV Comparatives lab conducts many different tests to test security software products. The tests test security in real-world scenarios as well as the detection of files infected (classical testing) as well as performance. Avira Prime did well in AV Comparatives tests. It offered 99percent protection against mac malware, PUAs, and Windows Malware. However it requires a monthly subscription for full functionality, and its advertisements can be a bit annoying.
