Synopsis
Ma Chenggang and Chunlan, who have “no oil in their soup or money in their pockets”, ride donkeys to work and have a poor family. This is the third feature film, following Xia Luo te fan nao (2015) and Xi hong shi shou fu (2018) in “Slinky Town Universe” by writer-directors Da-Mo Peng and Fei Yan, starring Teng Shen.
The English subtitles and humor translate well for Western audiences
I Want to Be the Wind Composed by Fei Peng Lyrics by Tian Tang Acting by Lu Xian Sen. I went in expecting only mild humor, but I got a hilarious, dramatic, emotional and thought-provoking film.
Strict parenting is more common in China than in the US
Actor Teng Shen does a great job playing the father, displaying a wide range of emotions with charisma. Some cultural context: * College entrance exams are a HUGE thing in China * Jack Ma is a famous billionaire * Education and filial piety are also important in China.
