Gary Oldman was originally rumored to be cast, but was replaced by Kevin Kline
Synopsis
It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a television documentary journalist whose work is built on uncovering the transgressions of long-respected institutions.. Damn! Little did I know what an experience I was in for when I started watching this AppleTV+ limited series starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.
At its core, this is a tale of revenge
"Disclaimer" is based on Renée Knight’s novel of the same name, and was written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón for the screen version. Blanchett plays Catherine, a journalist whose secrets from her past resurface in an alarming way, forcing her to confront the past that is destroying her entire life. This was a masterfully told story, taking us on a fascinating journey of discovery as the audience is shown (sometimes in vivid detail) the "events" Katarina’s past.
Blanchett, as always, is fantastic here, and Kline gives a solid performance as well
It was surprising to see Sacha Baron Cohen in a more serious role, but he did it. Despite a couple/several minor gripes, I highly recommend this series if you like character dramas with a little extra tension/intrigue. Note: There are some pretty graphic depictions of sex/intimacy shown in various episodes.
Video review coming soon
This isn’t action packed and it took about half an episode (roughly 30 minutes) before I was eventually "hooked" to the story. But I’m glad I stayed. The last season of "What we do in the shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
