Synopsis
Four turbulent decades during the Northern Ireland Rebellion
The real-life Dolours Price was married to Irish actor Stephen Ree for two decades (1983-2003).
During this period, Ree appeared in the film for which she is perhaps best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game
In the film, Ree plays Fergus, a very reluctant and controversial member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) — the same organization Price had been associated with for many years.
The series clearly tries to strike a balance in its exploration of this period
Coming from the North, it is very surreal to see such a quality series about this period.
The characters are brilliantly developed and played from all sides, especially Dolours Price and Brendan Hughes, and the quirky humour is very welcome and useful
Obviously, the focus in the end is on the missing, especially Jean McConville and some of the former IRA volunteers, but it does a great job of showing the motivations and circumstances of those involved in the IRA.
