Joanna Arnow’s real parents appear in the film, playing Ann’s parents
Synopsis
A mosaic-style comedy that follows a woman’s life over time in her long-term casual BDSM relationship, her low-level corporate job, and her feuding Jewish family.
The approach to hard life offered by Arnow’s direction and approach is a bit odd, but her new level offers something special in the setting and concept
This tongue-in-cheek tale from Joanna Arnow is a solid, tongue-in-cheek dramedy about a detached character involved in a BDSM relationship and living her life with interesting directorial approaches, deadpan atmospherics, and a solid performance from Joanna.
Which is also provided by solid performances from the cast
Including dry humor dialogue, structural approaches, and character conversations between performances.
Still, I’m looking forward to seeing what Arnow might come up with next
Because some of the writing and pacing is a bit too slow, the characters feel distant to connect with, which makes them a bit frustrating to watch at times, in a context that isn’t so great.
